Eagles too strong for Dogs

April 12, 2017

Both under-14 and under-16 Benalla Bulldogs sides were mauled by the Mansfield Eagles on the weekend.

In the under-14 match, the Dogs flooded forward but could not turn possession with the ball into points.

Meanwhile the Eagles scored freely, the scoreboard only slowed thanks to strong defensive efforts from Dogs’ players Will Strickland, Ethan Wright-Fry and Charlie Wright-Fry.

The Bulldogs drove the ball forward on numerous occasions but were unable to score, apart from Charlie Bull who snagged a couple of first-half goals.

Nathan Davies and Bode Stevens ran hard all night as well.

In the end, the Eagles took the game by 90 points.

Mansfield Eagles 18.8.116 defeated Benalla Bulldogs 4.2.26.

Meanwhile in the under-16 game the Bulldogs looked a short side compared to the tall Eagles, and the first quarter was an arm-wrestle.

The second produced a polished Eagles side full of run going to the main break with a 35-point lead.

Bulldogs Matt Gillespie and Wil Hoskins both showed a high work rate and James McConnell had plenty of run on the wing.

Regan Williams also produced some good football up forward and in the ruck as did Josh Kubeil and Zac Calvert.

The Eagles were far too strong on the day however, taking the win by more than 70 points.

Mansfield Eagles 14.15.99 d Benalla Bulldogs 3.6.24.
