The Benalla Bowls Club hosted the 60 and over North Eastern Bowlers Group Jack Edwards Memorial Day on Thursday.
The North Eastern Bowlers Group consists of 25 clubs from North Eastern Victoria and the border. The trophy was named after one of Benalla’s presidents and has been contested for 25 years.
It is one of three major trophies played for during the season — the others the Roy Black Day and The Jim Carter Day, these days are used by this group to raise donations for local hospitals in the area.
Almost 50 teams of four travelled from North Eastern Victoria and the border to the club, for this special day, they played three games of nine ends.
Overall winners after a count back was the team from Corowa Services. Eddie Burton (s), Peter Summerville, Jim Beveridge and Ray Bourke, with three wins, 49 points plus 35.
Runner up was the team from Howlong, also three wins, 49 points but a plus 21.

Winners on a count back the team of D. Tilbury, J. Archer and V. Smith with 2 wins, 11 shots up and 16 ends won.
Runner up D. Brooker, T. Hill and P. Keast also 2 wins, 11 shots up but 14 ends won.
