Benalla’s Under-13 Sixes team was valiant in defeat in Shepparton on Saturday, going down 13:0 to the skilled SYC Yellow.

The team is improving immensely with each game and did a fantastic job in the second half to keep SYC totally scoreless.

Eloise McDonald played an exceptional game in her first stint as goalie, deflecting many certain goals. Cindy Daws, Charlie Grimwade and Zoe Grundy were a solid defence, working well to back each other up.

Sarah Farley and Alex White made some great runs up the field in attack, but SYC was too strong.

Benalla’s Under-15s fought hard against SYC, keeping them to just four goals, but unfortunately not scoring themselves.

Goalie Perry Plex again had a stellar game, saving many goals, and directing some great defence in the back line. With all players rotating positions, there were some good turn-overs and attacking runs from Alex Dowe, Thomas Hill, Ankur Singh and dual-players from Strikers Siobhan Linnet and Darcy Tyquin.

Umpire best and fairest votes went to Perry Plex (3), Evan Dowe (2), and Zoe Grundy (1).

The nil-all final score didn’t do justice to the furious competition between Benalla and SYC’s B-Women, at home in Benalla on Saturday afternoon. Both teams were relentless, with many penalty corners awarded at both ends. Full-back Mel Gillies often lead the charge forward, with strong turn-overs through to forwards Sarah Chittick, Livinya Dean and Heidi Perry. Wings Cindy Daws and Suzanne Wright came close to scoring a number of times.

Half-backs Lee Manning, Chelsea Perry and Willow Plex covered the whole field, forcing SYC onto the defence. First-time goalie Zoe Grundy made three fantastic saves.

Umpire best and fairest votes went to Mel Gillies (3), Willow Plex (2), and Livinya Dean (1).

Benalla’s B-Men controlled their game at home in Benalla on Saturday, outscoring SYC 3:1.

The ball was in Benalla’s half for most of the fast game, with strong defence from Anthony Couche and Dave McIntyre.

Centre-half Marty Gillies again covered the field well, supporting the inexperienced players, with Shaun Findlow, Travis Guerra and Thomas Hill making some great plays.

The team play keeps improving, with some great strong passes and forward attack into goals.

Goals were scored by Gillies, Dane Hanstead and McIntyre to the delight of the home crowd.

Umpire best and fairest votes went to Marty Gillies (3), Evan Dowe (2), and Anthony Couche (1).

The Junior teams play in Shepparton this Saturday, with the U13-Sixers vs Strikers at 10am and U15s playing Mooroopna at 11am. The seniors play in Benalla against Mooroopna, with the B-Men at 2pm and B-Women at 3.30pm.
