Benalla Hockey Club’s top women’s and men’s sides recorded wins on the weekend.

The B men’s side had a hard-fought game against Echuca, coming out trumps 3-2.

Benalla was first on the scoreboard with Thomas Hill scoring his first ever senior goal.

In the second half Echuca was desperate to come back, and did so with two goals.

However, Benalla earned the lead back with goals to Dane Hansted and Shaun Findlow.

Best and fairest votes went to Hansted, Evan Dowe and David McIntyre.

B-women

The women played a tremendous game against Echuca, with a well-deserved 2-0 win.

The Tigers sent a barrage of attacks into goal, with their determination paying off with a penalty corner goal in each half finally tucked away by Heidi Perry.

Goalie Prue White starred with many dives to make crucial saves and deflections off repeat attacks while still on the ground.

Umpire best and fairest votes went to White, Gillies and Higgins.

Under-13 Sixes

Benalla’s under-13s played a tough match in the wind last Saturday, with the more experienced Strikers taking the win.

Tigers’ wing Eloise McDonald played strong attacking hockey, effectively angling play towards centre Charlie Grimwade.

Sarah Farley was mobile in goal with terrific saves, while Cindy Daws made solid traps to push the ball forward to Zoe Grundy, Liana Turner and Alex White.

Umpire best and fairest votes went to Grundy, White and McDonald.

Under-15

Benalla’s under-15s were valiant in defeat against the top-of-the-ladder Echuca, fighting hard right to the siren.

Echuca’s fast game play had the Tigers’ defence working overtime, with Thomas Hill and Tyler Wright backing up Perry Plex as goalie.

Umpire best and fairest votes went to Olly Day, Ankur Singh and Darcy Tyquin.

All teams play SYC in Shepparton on Saturday: U13s at 10am; U15s at 11.10am; women at 12.30pm; and the men at 2pm.
