Benalla Bowls Club has a big week next week as they welcome more than 50 disabled sportspeople for the club’s Disability Sports Day.
It all begins on Monday October 9, with the opening of the North East 60 and over Bowlers Group season, the Roy Back Memorial Day.
Some 200 bowlers will be in attendance, to compete in teams of four for a prestigious trophy.
Thursday sees the Disability Sports Day, called Get Fit Get on the Bowling Green. This day is in its second year and is the idea of Valley Sport, Bowls Australia and club president Bob McLarty and secretary Graham Moore.
Last year about 50 athletes with disability, along with their carers, attended for a fun day of bowls followed by a barbecue, handled by FCJ College students.
Invitations have been sent across to the city council to attend, WIN News coming down, Josh Thorton from Bowls Australia, Scott Nicholls from Bowls Victoria, plus Jarryed Cutler new boss of the All Abilities Sports Division from Shepparton, plus many from Sports Valley.
The week will be rounded off on Sunday with the Ugly Bartender Day, a charity day fund raising for Leukaemia.
The cost is $30 a team or $10 for single entry. There will be a barbecue, along with music on the green. The club is aiming to raise $1500.
Friday, 40 players including visitors, played in the regular jackpot pairs. Winners were J. Archers and J Bluck with two wins and a plus 11. Runners up were A. Burge and M. Sellars.
In the indoor Bowls on Thursday, two games of 10 ends were played. Winners were L. Brown, M. Cromie, M. Price and Robert, runners up were V. King, G. Green, and C. Levy.
Last Tuesday’s winners were M. Ryan (S), N. Elkan, G. Herman, B. and H. Harper. Runners up were K. Black (S), G. Leek, H. Sharp, and R. Charlwood.
Friday’s winners were T. Anderson (S), H. Harper, B. Harper and D. Caplehorn. Runners up were M. Ryan (S), M. Charlwood and F. Caplehorn.
And on Saturday, the winners were K. Black (S), N. Elkan, L. Levy, V. Gillespie and J. Hocking. Runners up were A. Morris (S) B. Ilsley, M. Price and M. Williams.
