Benalla Bowls Club has a big week next week as they welcome more than 50 disabled sportspeople for the club’s Disability Sports Day.

It all begins on Monday October 9, with the opening of the North East 60 and over Bowlers Group season, the Roy Back Memorial Day.

Some 200 bowlers will be in attendance, to compete in teams of four for a prestigious trophy.

Thursday sees the Disability Sports Day, called Get Fit Get on the Bowling Green. This day is in its second year and is the idea of Valley Sport, Bowls Australia and club president Bob McLarty and secretary Graham Moore.

Last year about 50 athletes with disability, along with their carers, attended for a fun day of bowls followed by a barbecue, handled by FCJ College students.

The week will be rounded off on Sunday with the Ugly Bartender Day, a charity day fund raising for Leukaemia.

The cost is $30 a team or $10 for single entry. There will be a barbecue, along with music on the green. The club is aiming to raise $1500.
