Benalla Hockey Club’s Evan Dowe was commended by the Benalla Young Sportspersons Trust on his selection to play in the FHE Cup in Perth.
Trust representative Scott Upston and Benalla Hockey Committee member, Evan’s teammate and mentor, David McIntyre, joined Evan to congratulate him on the progress he has made.
Evan has played hockey since joining the Benalla team in 2006, where a small group of kids met at the field every Saturday morning under the guidance of Noel Baumgarten and Rupe Cheatham.
He has since played junior hockey for the Shepparton Youth Club and Benalla Tigers, represented the Goulbourn Valley Hockey Association in the Junior Country Championships and the Northeast Knights in the Junior State Championships.
He has also been a part of the Benalla men’s B-team for the past four years, despite his young age.
He was among a group of 40 boys invited to try out for the Ciriello Coaching Academy under-16 boys team, competing in the FHE Cup in Perth and one of 20 selected from Regional and Metropolitan Victoria and NSW.
He has undertaken an intensive personal training program, along with three weekend skills training sessions, with the final training in Melbourne.
The CCA team leaves for Perth on November 20, with another three days of training before the competition starts on the 23rd.
They will be competing with teams from Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, NSW and WA.
They will also be able to talk to Australian players about their experiences and development.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Evan to develop his hockey skills and play high-level hockey.
