A six-goal first quarter helped Benalla Bulldogs set up 30-point victory over the Wangaratta Centrals on Sunday.
On-baller Chelton Orchard continued his outstanding form with another best on ground performance, kicking four goals.
Aaron Cooke, Zac Calvert, Will Hoskins, Charlie Wright-Fry and Matty Knight led the way for the Doggies.
At the Benalla Showgrounds, the Giants Came up against Mansfield in wet, slippery conditions.
The Giants were no match for a bigger stronger Mansfield team whose inaccuracy at goal became the only thing stopping a massive blow-out.
Josh Milner tried hard in the backline all day with Luke Dunne and David Button among the Giants’ best contributors. Angus O’Halloran also had a good game laying several big tackles.
The final score Mansfield 14-19-103 def. Giants 5-3-33.
In Under 14 matches, the Giants battled hard against Mansfield and after last week’s big loss the team was committed to playing better this week.
At half-time the Giants trailed by just seven points, their ability to be first to the footy really paying off.
Mansfield lifted in the second half, however, the Giants never gave up and continued to work extremely hard.
Charlie McCarthy led from the front all day with an outstanding performance, he had great help from Angus Burston, Colby Mathieson, Kane Clark, Charlie Dewinne and Tyresse Clark.
Jasper Defazio kicked two goals.
Final score Mansfield 7.12 (54) defeated Giants 2 - 4 - (16).
Benalla Bulldogs Under-14s found the going tough against a strong Centrals team at Wangaratta. The young Doggies were kept goal less for the match, the final margin extending to 114 points.
Charlie Bull continued his great start to the season, while Will Strickland, Seb Van De Paverd, Sam Parker, Jack Fullager and Oscar Lilley fought hard.
In Under-12 matches, Benalla White recorded its first victory for the season, defeating Centrals by 33 points in a great team effort.
The ‘‘wolves’’ led the match from start to finish after rebounding from their round one loss to Wangaratta Magpies.
Sam Cox, Flynn Weeks, Riley Ely, Cooper Gracie, Kyle Pearce and Rory Sammon were the best players.
Benalla Red and Benalla Green contested a nail-biting game at the Benalla Showgrounds on Saturday.
After trailing for three quarters, Green were able to kick two last quarter goals to win the match by the smallest of margins.
John Wells and Cohen Symes both kicked goals for Red, while George Lithgow (2) was the only multiple goal kicker on the ground.
Red’s Jaidyn Chee, Max Woods, Kye Miller, Charlie Button, Campbell Drury and Vohen Dymes were the best players.
For Green, James Cooke, Ben Reardon, Joe Berry, Daniel Farley, Jacob Buykx and Hamish Willet were all great contributors.
